Great Expectations Great expectations can be summarized in one word, bildungsroman. Itââ¬â¢s a big word just how Great Expectations is a big book, about 400 pages to be exact. Bildungsroman is a word used by many English teachers and scholars to describe a story about growing up. Great Expectations comes to follow a young orphan, whose name is Pip, going from boyhood to manhood. The book also isnââ¬â¢t about watching a character grow older; itââ¬â¢s about watching how a character changes, hopefully for the better. In Pips case, the growth comes in how he changes his expectations, in other words, his ambitions. In the first stage of his expectations, Pip desires to be a gentleman; wealthy, well respected, upper-class. By the end, Pip has come toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Miss Havisham was very strange; she would ware her old dusty wedding dress often, and teaches Stella to be a cold hearted man hater. On the other hand, Pips slowly starts falling for Stella. Unfortunately Stella has other plans and marries a man named Drummel. The whole time Pip is thinking that Mss. Havisham is priming him to be a gentleman, but later disappoints him by telling he that he better start hustling as a black smith with his brother Joe Then came a lawyer by the name of Jaggers, who informs Pip that he has inherited much wealth by an anonymous source. Pip soon kicks Joe to the curve and heads to London to start living in the high life. In London, he meets his new best friend, Herbert Pocket. When he wasnââ¬â¢t spending time with Herbert, he was wasting his time falling in love and visiting Stella. Stella again has other plans and rejects him for Drummel. Has his change of life comes, he suspects that Miss Havisham was the one responsible for his new wealth, as a scheme to get Stella and Pip together, but one night he is visited by a get gets a visitor. The visitor explains that his name is Able Magwitch, the escape convict from the grave yard, and that he is the one responsible for Pips new wealth. Pip soon found that able was there illegally, and he had to hide him from the police, while his ex-partner in crime, Compeyson, was lurking around the house threatening their lives.
